The idea to create a Museum of Nikolai Lobachevsky in Kazan appeared in 1942, to the 150th anniversary of the scientist, mathematics Peter Shirokov and Nikolai Chebotarev proposed to organize a Museum of the scientist at the Kazan University. In 1991, on the initiative of the University, the Council of Ministers of TASSR adopted a resolution on the organization of the Lobachevsky Museum in the Rector's house. Then for the exhibition was selected corner room on the second floor with an area of 26 square meters, which required repair and restoration work. There were no funds for this, so the idea was returned only 14 years later: on December 1, 2016, the rector of the KFU Ilshat Gafurov announced the 2017 year of Lobachevsky, at the same time it was announced the opening of the Museum of the scientist.
